چکیده

In this work, the transfer matrix method (TMM) is employed to investigate optical properties of one-dimensional periodic and quasiperiodic photonic crystals containing nematic liquid crystal (NLC) layers. This structure expressed as (ABC)J(CBA)J made alternated layers isotropic dielectrics SiO2 (A), BGO (B) (C). The simulation study shows that proposed ternary configuration exhibits tunable defect mode within band gap (PBG) can be manipulated by adjusting thicknesses NLC in order lattice. addition, optimized permits for strong confinement light giving rise an microcavity. application applied voltage into enables improving sensitivity guiding local mode. It has been also shown applying inflation according Rudin Shapiro Sequence (RSS) scheme main structure, several resonant modes appear PBG. presence such sharp peaks reflects NLC-based behaves like multiple microcavites with light-matter coupling.

Temperature Tunability of Dielectric/ Liquid Crystal / Dielectric Photonic Crystal Structures

Recently, photonic crystals doped with liquid crystal (LC) material havegained much research interest. In this article new ternary one-dimensional photoniccrystal introduced and studied. The liquid crystal layer of 5CB and 5PCH is sandwichedby two dielectric layers. For the first time, we use four structures SiO2/UCF35/CaF2,SiO2/5CB/CaF2, NFK51/UCF35/NPSK53 and NFK51/5CB/NPSK53. The effect ofte...

Electrically Rotatable Polarizer Using One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal with a Nematic Liquid Crystal Defect Layer

Polarization characteristics of defect mode peaks in a one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal (PC) with a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) defect layer have been investigated. Two different polarized defect modes are observed in a stop band. One group of defect modes is polarized along the long molecular axis of the NLC, whereas another group is polarized along its short axis. Polarizations of the d...

Self-focussed optical structures in a nematic liquid crystal

In recent experiments investigating the nonlinear interaction between light and nematic liquid crystals, Braun et al. (1993) observed complex optical beam structures that were generated by the strong self-focussing of laser light. For a simplified partial differential equation (PDE) model which captures the essential coupling between optical refraction and nematic deformation, we demonstrate tw...

Optical tuning of silicon photonic structures with nematic liquid crystal claddings.

An analysis of and experimental demonstration of active optical tuning of silicon strip waveguides with methyl red doped nematic liquid crystal claddings is presented. Under low-power irradiation by polarized light, the reorientation of the nematic, the resulting index change, and phase shift produce a tuning range of 5.6 nm for the microresonator resonances.
